Satya’s Boat

175.00 150.00

Little Satya lives by the Ganga in Banaras and longs to row a boat, just like her father. But he says she’s not old enough or strong enough.

She then makes a paper boat and slips into a dream where she drifts into a watery world. But what is her father doing there?

As the story unfolds, the finely detailed illustrations heighten the magical quality of the story, brilliantly capturing the hustle and bustle of the Banaras river front as it blends in with Satya’s dream.

Description

Satya is a boatman’s daughter. She watches her father row along to the flow of the river every day.

She dreams of the day she could learn to row like him but her father doesn’t think she’s big enough yet. So, little Satya makes her very own wax paper boat with two tiny oars and holds on to it tight, along with her hope.

With the moon adorning the sky that night, Satya notices her father sneak away as everyone snores, and set sail into the night. She quickly hops into her little boat and follows him downstream, carried by the current of her imagination, to a mystical and magical realm underwater.
